SADD members launch Sticker Shock project
Posted on Dec 14, 2009
On December 17, members of the Lauralton Hall SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group will partner with MADD in their second Sticker Shock Campaign. Results fromÊa recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicated that underage drinking in our community is all too common. During this holiday season, SADD members will be taking actions to reduce underage drinking and to prevent any potential tragedies from happening in our town. This project aims to reach those individuals over age 21 that legally purchase alcohol and provide it to a minor. The campaign consists of stickers being adhered to multi-packs of alcoholic beverages in participating liquor stores.
A team of Lauralton Hall SADD members, accompanied by an adult chaperone, will visit TJ's Package Store and Friendly's Liquor Shop in Milford from 2:30pm - 3:00pm on December 17, to launch this campaign. The stickers read, "Hey you!! It is ILLEGAL to provide alcohol for people under 21!"
The purpose of Sticker Shock is to raise public awareness about the minimum drinking age law by placing stickers on multi packs of beer, wine coolers and other products that appeal to underage drinkers. The goal of this project is to discourage adults and older peers who are 21 or over from providing alcohol to minors.
According to SADD President, Sarah Macone,'10, of Milford, "preventing underage drinking is everyone's responsibility. More must be done to address this problem."
