<p><strong>Monica Laskos named DAR Good Citizen</strong> </p>  <p>Monica Laskos, ’10 has been named the Lauralton Hall recipient of the DAR Good Citizen award program. Sponsored by the Freelove Baldwin Stow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the DAR Good Citizen scholarship contest recognizes an outstanding young person in the senior class. Students selected as Good Citizen, one from each of the four Milford high schools, will be awarded a certificate and a prize of $100 on March 11, 2010, at 7pm at the F.B.S. chapter house located at 55 Prospect Street, Milford. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must display these qualities to an outstanding degree: dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality; service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </p>
 </p> 
<p>An excellent selection for this award, Monica is an exceptional student leader who is very involved in community service, as well as being an award-winning student. She is a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar, a National Merit Commended Scholar, a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, a recipient of Excellence in History Award and has won A.P. Scholar awards. In addition, she was invited to participate in the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth and was selected to spend the 2008-2009 school year in the Page Program in Washington, D.C. Monica is also very involved in numerous school clubs, including “All Things Considered,” Spanish Club and more. She has also participated in the Freshman Choir and Concert Choir at Lauralton. Outside of school she is a member of Children of the American Revolution and the Greek Orthodox Youth Association. Monica has also been involved in sports, having participated in field hockey and track at Lauralton, as well as being a part of the Shelton Youth Soccer Organization.</p>  <p><strong>Nadia Oberson named HOBY Ambassador</strong> </p>  <p>Nadia Oberson, ’12 has been named the Lauralton Hall Hugh O’Brian Leadership (HOBY) Ambassador for 2009-2010. HOBY is the nation’s premier program exclusively designed for high school sophomores. It provides lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential. Annually, over 20,000 public and private high schools are invited to select an outstanding tenth grader to attend a three or four-day HOBY leadership development seminar.&nbsp; </p>  <p>An excellent selection for this award, Nadia is an exceptional student leader who is very involved in the service of helping others and leading by example. Outside of school she is a member of the St. Margaret Mary’s youth group besides being a weekly volunteer at the Spooner House. At Lauralton, Nadia is a member of nine clubs but is especially passionate about the two in which she is an officer: Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Humanities. As a SADD Club officer, Nadia participated in several of the club’s activities:&nbsp; a Sticker Shock campaign to raise awareness about underage drinking, decorating hallways for the prom and the Walk Like MADD fundraiser to prevent drunk driving. Nadia is also highly involved as an officer of the Humanities Club. She helps run the fundraising for charitable organizations, including Invisible Children. She also participates every week in sending thirty-two sandwiches, along with beverages and snacks, to the Beth-El Shelter in Milford. As treasurer of the Humanities Club, Nadia also manages the finances for the club.&nbsp;&nbsp; </p>  <p>The entire Lauralton Hall community congratulates Monica and Nadia on their accomplishments.<br></p>
