In a December 2 ceremony marked by the traditional lighting of candles, the Lauralton Hall chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 54 new members. "The inductees tonight are a special group, recognized for their academic prowess and attention to community service, leadership, and character," said Pam Boynton, Co-Moderator of the chapter. "We are so very proud of all that these young women have accomplished. It will be our pleasure to watch as they grow and shape their world," Mrs. Boynton added.
Now in its second century of providing academic excellence for young women, Lauralton Hall’s chapter of the National Honor Society has lauded the talents of hundreds of young women throughout the decades. Suzanne Fitzpatrick, ’11, this year’s President of the Lauralton Hall chapter, addressed all four components of the NHS function - leadership, service, character, and academic prowess. Christine Cook, Co-Moderator of the chapter, clarified the parameters for membership. "To be considered for membership, students must achieve a weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) of 90 or above, a standard that is five points higher than the standard set nationally" she explained. "In a college preparatory school that can boast the placement of students in major Ivy League colleges and universities across the country, this is an elite group of scholars and role models,” Mrs. Cook added.
Inductees include Micheline Bellmore, ’11 and these members of the Class of 2012: Wendy Amidon, Briana Archer, Vincenza Bartholomew, Lauren Bowlby, Brooke Buynak, Megan Cogguillo, Grace Dahlman, Guylendy Dormevil, Marisa Dowling, Luisa Duque, Avalon Esposito, Ashley Flynn, Nicole Franchella, Katherine Fredericks, Catherine Gildea, Albina Gjoni, Christina Gould, Abbey Guerino, Shelby Halliday, Alexandra Hamar, Gwen Hawkes, Jacqueline Horne, Emily Janik, Nicole Kaps, Kara Kendziorsko, Mirandy Kim, Jacquelyn Kubicko, Micaela Kwochka, Emma Linsenmeyer, Caroline Lynch, Rebecca Mancini, Tavia Mastrianni, Marissa Matto, Catherine McAree, Kelly Ann McCarthy, Erin Montanez, Christina Nestor, Meghan O’Connell, Nadia Oberson, Haley Olson, Noel Ostrosky, Nicole Peterson, Catherine Riccio, Caitlin Riccitelli, Rachel Roberts, Madeline Rudden, Allison Sacco, Mariel Schlaefer, Rhea Schneider, Erin Siegman, Mary Siroky, Noelle Starr, Amanda Watson and Emily Wolpiuk.
Senior officers, Suzanne Fitzpatrick, President; Leslie Gorzkowski, Vice President; Alexa Gherlone, Secretary; and Catherine Amato, Treasurer, served as an honor guard for the evening. The Lauralton Hall Chamber Ensemble, comprised of seniors Leslie Gorzkowski, violin; and Kate Siroky, cello, and junior Mary Siroky, flute; presented A Fantasy on Greensleeves. Ms. Kelly Ann McCarthy, a junior inductee, performed a piano solo entitled The Revelation Song.
The Lauralton Hall chapter of the National Honor Society is now more than 90 members strong. To date, members have been active in fundraisers for Invisible Children and the Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Foundation. Service projects have included a book drive to supplement area elementary school libraries, an all-school spelling bee, and a Peer Tutoring program offered to Lauralton Hall students. Pam Boynton and Christine Cook represent the English and Mathematics departments, respectively, and Yvonne Fosse-Previs, a member of the Guidance department, serves as the Peer Tutor Coordinator.
