The April book sale sponsored by the LH CARES (Lauralton Hall Community Always Respects Everyone) student organization in conjunction with the Scholastic Community Book Sale program, was a huge success! Book sale profits will help stock the St. Martin de Porres Nativity School Library. A tuition free Catholic school, St. Martin de Porres will open in Hamden in the fall of 2005 to serve children from the greater New Haven area who could not otherwise afford a Catholic education.

Almost $500, representing 10% of the book sale proceeds, was returned to Lauralton for the purchase of books for St. Martin. In addition, members of the Lauralton community purchased more than 400 children’s books for donation to the St. Martin library, and Scholastic donated an additional 500 books. This outpouring of generosity, particularly on the part of the students, is yet another example of the ever present spirit of Mercy at Lauralton Hall.

The Lauralton community thanks LH CARES members and moderator Christine Ring for their hard work and dedication to this project.
