Connecticut U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, recently hosted in her Washington, D.C., home a gathering for alumnae who are now living, or attending college, near the nation’s capitol.
All remembered their four years at Lauralton with happy memories. DeLauro, who was a boarding student and graduated in 1960, was especially enthusiastic.
“Lauralton Hall will always be very near and dear to my heart. I cherish the time I spent there,” DeLauro said. “It was at Lauralton that I met the women who, to this day, are among my closest friends. And it was my time at Lauralton that built the foundation for my success today--to reach out, to work hard, to fulfill my potential and be whatever I wanted to be. During my formative years, they cultivated my intellectual curiosity, nurtured my spirituality, and ingrained in me the deep-rooted values I rely on every day.”
Ann Marie McGovern Beal, ’49 was the oldest graduate present. Others included Ernestine Pauley, ’51; Barbara Jackson LeMoine, ’57; Susan Nowicki Durst, ’60; Mary Gasperini Lawrence, ’63; Barbara Butterworth,’84; Dorothy Miller Heard, ’70; Patricia Enright, ’71; U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Joanna Collins Nunan, ’83; Kristin MacKenzie, ’87; Maura Kelly Lannan, ’89; Kerry McGovern, ’92; Samantha Buckingham, ’93; Susan Richardson-Askew, ’93; Kristy Kipchak Matchett, ’95; Barbara Leen, ’96; Deidre Walsh, ’96; Sumner Menchero, ’96; Jennifer Belle Isle, ’00; Stephanie Salvagno, ’03; and Patricia Reville, ’06.
Hosted several times a year at locations throughout the country, “Reunions on the Road” are designed to bring together Lauralton alumnae who, because of distance, may not be able to attend events at the school.
Lauralton President Barbara C. Griffin attends each of these events, bringing news about the school to the former students. Similar events will take place later this year in Florida and Boston.
