Kiley Cappetta of West Haven has been awarded the Mother Mary Augustine Claven Scholarship, named for the foundress of Lauralton Hall, a four-year academic full scholarship. The daughter of David and Sharon Cappetta, Rebecca is an eighth-grader at Our Lady of Victory School in West Haven.
Two other incoming freshmen were named winners of Lauralton’s Mother Mary Joseph Garvey Scholarship and were awarded four-year academic half-scholarships. Named after the school’s first principal who served from 1905 to 1921, the awards have been presented to:
Alexandra Chrupcala of Fairfield, the daughter of Edward and Lisa Chrupcala. Erin is an eighth-grader at Our Lady of the Assumption School in Fairfield.
Jessica Recce of Shelton, the daughter of John and Cara Recce. Caitlin is an eighth-grader at St. Joseph School in Shelton.
Each of the scholarship winners was required to write an essay and meet competitive academic criteria. Scholarship, leadership, and integrity are the defining characteristics of both awards.
The scholarship winners, along with their families, enjoyed a celebration dinner with school administrators on February 24, 2009. The entire Lauralton community congratulates these outstanding students on their academic achievements and extends a warm welcome to Lauralton Hall.
Later that evening, the Lauralton legacy continued as incoming freshmen whose mothers and/or grandmothers are Lauralton alumnae were recognized at a lovely reception in the mansion. Also in attendance were several faculty and staff members who also graduated from Lauralton. Eleven students in the incoming freshmen class have a legacy connection to Lauralton Hall--four students are both the daughter and the granddaughter of a graduate, five students are the daughters of graduates; and two students are the granddaughters of Lauralton alumnae. In addition, 13 members of Lauralton’s faculty and staff are graduates of the school.
