In attendance were the members of the Class of 2009, administrators and teachers. The evening began with an address by Class of 2009 President Rashea Banks, followed by remarks from the school’s president, Barbara Griffin. Campus Minister Christine Ring led the group in prayer before they enjoyed a wonderful buffet dinner.

The students found that most hats for women were intended to be worn with long hair. The hats or headdresses were shaped into halos--escoffins--or turbans, formed into cones, or shaped to be worn with veils such as pillbox-styled and diamond-shaped fanchons and Juliets. Other hats, such as the muffin hat, were soft and relaxed. Many headpieces sported feathers or jewels.

Senior Stephanie Garcia thoroughly enjoyed the project and said, "Making the hats was a fun way to connect to the Renaissance, different from just reading literary selections from the period."

Dressed in semi-formal attire, 53 young ladies and their dads entered the Claven Auditorium on the evening of January 31 and danced the night away to music by WJ Productions, featuring DJ Sal Capodicci. Representatives of McAuley Guild participated by providing tasty treats and helping with photography. Excitement was in the air when the door prize and raffle prize winners were announced, and the biggest applause was held for the family of Carla Paiva, ’12, winner of a ticket to Lauralton’s $100,000 tuition raffle. Congratulations and good luck to the Paiva family!

All of the engaging works to be displayed at Café Atlantique were created in new, state of the art classrooms built recently to help renew and cultivate interest and participation in the visual arts. In the words of school president Barbara Griffin, “Lauralton Hall believes that the arts are essential elements of a classic college preparatory curriculum.”

An opening reception will take place at Café Atlantique on February 3, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. The reception is open to the public.
