Rashea Banks, ’09, Nina Demeter, ’07 and Stephanie Dillon, ’07 presented poems of their own choosing in Spanish, while Laura Boynton, ’08, Dana Miraglia, ’07 and Rachelle Pierre, ’07 competed at various levels with selections of French poetry.

These girls joined with approximately 1200 students from across the state for a full afternoon hosted by the students and faculty of New Britain High School. Thirteen different languages comprised the scope of the day’s competition. The program consisted of State and City officials who welcomed the students and praised them for attaining this level of achievement, an elaborate competition schedule, a bag supper, entertainment by New Britain High School students studying performing arts and presentation of the various gold, silver and bronze medals for recitation. The medals were awarded based on accuracy, memorization and interpretation of the selected works. 

Laura Boynton and Stephanie Dillon captured silver medals in their respective French and Spanish categories and Nina Demeter proudly took home a bronze medal. All expressed high praise for their worthy competitors.

With her usual witty commentary, Mrs. Pam Boynton kept the fashion show running smoothly as the models--students, mothers and staff members--"strutted their stuff" on the runway. ]]> More than 200 guests including students and their moms, aunts and grandmothers, as well as administrators, staff members and alumnae turned out for the annual McAuley Guild Mother/Daughter Fashion Show held this year at The Waterview in Monroe on April 2. With a spectacular view of Lake Zoar, The Waterview proved to be a lovely venue for this event which was held on a Sunday this year rather than on a weeknight as in previous years. Students from high schools throughout the state functioned in a mock state legislature at the Connecticut Capitol and Legislative Office Building. The Red Cross very much appreciates the efforts of the Student Council since one pint of blood can save up to three lives. The Blood Drive was organized and staffed by Student Council officers and senior members. The Student Council thanks those parents and teachers who donated and is especially appreciative of the support of the 70 students who donated.

There were 17 new inductees:  Laura Blagys, '07 and Margaret Steiner, '07 received certificates from the Société Honoraire de Français.  The honorees of the Junior Classical League were Andrea Archer, '06, Kylie Culnane, '07, Heather Hawkes, '09, Kelly Kopchik, '07, Lauren Marmol, '07, Megan Paqua, '07 and Allison Vincenzi, '07. Added to the roles of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica were the names of Johana Borjas, '08, Julianne Dorset, '08, Catherine Lynch, '08, Caroline Raccuia, '08, Elizabeth Sohmer, '08, Stephanie Urciuoli, '08, Elizabeth Vail, '07 and Michaela Walsh, '07. These students earned membership in their respective societies for their outstanding performances in the second and third years of language study. This scholarship honors the exceptional accomplishments of Connecticut high school seniors. Selection for the award is highly competitive and valued at $14,600 annually, the full cost of tuition. Margaret is a three-sport athlete (basketball, volleyball and lacrosse) who also excels in the classroom. She has led the basketball team in scoring for the last three seasons and is a two-time All-Conference selection. Basketball coach Steve Schuler credits his captain for the team’s success this season. Margaret carries a 98 average and has been accepted at Georgetown University and Boston College She says she is leaning towards BC and hopes to major in pre-med.
