Powder puff football...a new tradition
Lauralton Hall hosted the first annual Powder Puff Football Game on the backfield on November 18. Thanks to event organizer Alexa Gherlone, ’11, a new Lauralton tradition was born. The senior class challenged the junior class in an intense and competitive contest. Each team consisted of twenty players, with the senior team coached by Alexa and her dad, and the junior team coached by Peggy McGowan and Theresa Napolitano. The players for each team wore matching team “uniform” t-shirts and, decked out with eye black, arrived at the field ready to play. The score bounced back and fourth between the two teams; at the end of regulation time it was tied at 24-24. In sudden death overtime, the juniors won the coin toss and also carried the ball in for a touchdown to win the game 30-24. Former UCONN football player Daryl Wood officiated and his expertise and humor won the girls’ hearts.
