Lauralton Hall was recently listed on the State Register of Historic Places by the Connecticut Historic Preservation Council. This is an honorary designation that identifies Lauralton Hall as a historic property. “It is my sincere hope that this designation will serve to encourage the protection of this important historic resource,” states David Bahlman, Division Director of the State Historic Preservation Office. Lauralton Hall seniors recently completed a study of British literature from the Anglo-Saxon period. Included in the study is The Exeter Book, a collection of manuscripts most likely compiled by monks in approximately 880 A.D. containing Celtic literature from Wales and Ireland as well as Anglo-Saxon riddles. “The riddles were a popular form of party game for the Anglo-Saxons as they gathered around the hearth fires of their mead halls after the evening meal,” stated English teacher Donna Gibson. “Christmas in Song” to be presented December 9 Posted on Nov 23, 2010
The annual “Christmas in Song” concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, in the Parsons Complex auditorium, 70 West River St, Milford. All are invited to attend this free performance which will feature members of Lauralton’s Concert Choir, Advanced Vocal Ensemble, Freshman Choir, and Instrumental Ensemble. Voluntary donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the door to be given to local, needy residents.

Thanks to the Lauralton parents, alumnae and friends who joined us on November 17 at Bin 100 in Milford for a wonderful evening of wine tasting and conversation. The event was well attended and so highly successful that our guests are encouraging us to have more wine tastings in the future! In an October 28th ceremony conducted by junior class officers, class rings were blessed by Dorothy Synkewecz, RSM and presented to members of the Class of 2012 by President Antoinette Iadarola, Ph.D. A long-standing tradition at Lauralton Hall, the presentation of class rings by alumnae mothers added a special touch to the ceremony. Debra Ditullio Amoroso, ’85 presented the class ring to her daughter, Jennifer Amoroso; Eileen Duffy, ’79 to daughter Regan Beem; Janet Fitzpatrick McCann, ’74 to daughter Erin McCann; Susan Kasper Riccio, ’80 to daughter Catherine Riccio; and Renee Sheahan Sacco, ’76 to daughter Allison Sacco. Advanced Placement Environmental Science teacher April Kelley recently accompanied 21 students to Milford’s Mondo Pond for an Environmental Assay Survey. The students spent two hours surveying the environmental conditions of the pond and its surrounding habitat. After a guided nature walk around the pond led by Mrs. Kelley, the students settled into their assigned roles in the Environmental Assay Survey. Some aspects studied were dissolved oxygen levels, fecal bacterial counts, water quality (pH, nitrate and phosphate levels), soil quality (texture, pH, nitrate and phosphate levels) and species diversity. “Annie” production—a crowd pleaser Posted on Oct 24, 2010
