Tradition continues...juniors receive class rings

Posted on Oct 20, 2009

In a ceremony conducted by the class officers, class rings were blessed by Sister Dorothy Synkewecz and presented to the juniors by President Antoinette Iadarola. A special touch, and another Lauralton tradition, was the presentation of class rings by alumnae mothers to their daughters: Eydie Walker Moyer, ’83 to Myla and Carol Lyddy O'Connell, ’76 to Katie-John.

The juniors and guests were especially blessed to witness the presentation of class rings by three alumnae to their granddaughters: Eileen Foley Fitzpatrick, ’41 (along with mother Eileen Fitzpatrick Fickes, ’75) to Jacqueline Fickes; Mildred Ann Pinto Mooney, ’50 to Mildred McGrath and Annette Bucci Simko, ’58 to Stephanie Simko, thus highlighting the importance of this very special tradition. After receiving their rings the juniors eagerly began the traditional “ring turn” by relatives and friends for good luck. Following the ceremony, Junior Class members held a reception for their parents in the Claven Auditorium. .

The next night, the Class of 2011 celebrated together at the Junior Ring Dance. The Claven Auditorium was transformed with an “Under the Stars” theme complete with blue, sliver and white balloons and streamers. Chaperones formed a receiving line to greet the juniors and their dates, who had a wonderful time “dancing the night away” as they concluded the celebrations surrounding the class ring traditions
