Dr. Iadarola to be honored on January 31

Posted on Jan 13, 2010

The National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW), Connecticut Region will hold its first annual Epiphany Celebration at the New Haven Lawn Club on January 31. In following with the Epiphany tradition of celebrating the three wise men, NOIAW’s Connecticut Region will honor “Three Wise Women” who have made outstanding achievements in their fields and positive contributions to their communities, and who are also strong role models to the next generation of Italian American women. Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro will present the awards to this year’s honorees: Lynn R. Fusco, President, Fusco Corporation; Antoinette Iadarola, Ph.D., President, Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall; and Mary E. Tinetti, M.D., Director, Yale Program on Aging, Yale School of Medicine.

NOIAW Chairwoman and Founder Dr. Aileen Riotto Sirey said of the honorees, “These phenomenal women represent a vital component of NOIAW’s mission to promote the educational and professional advancement of Italian American women. They serve as a showcase of what Italian American women have to offer to any field we choose to pursue, and they are role models to the next generation of Italian American women.”

Antoinette (Toni) Iadarola was appointed president of Lauralton Hall in July 2009. Prior to this role, she was the first lay president of Cabrini College in Radnor, PA from 1992 through June 2009. Dr. Iadarola, a native of New York City, was raised in Shelton; she holds a bachelors degree from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, where she began her career as a history professor in 1973. A Fulbright Scholar affiliated with the London School of Economics, Iadarola holds masters and doctoral degrees from Georgetown University and did post-doctoral studies at Fordham University and Yale Divinity School. During Toni’s 16-year tenure as president of Cabrini College, the College tripled its enrollment and successfully completed three capital campaigns raising over $100 million. There is much more to Dr. Iadarola, however, than the business of education. A strong advocate of community service, Toni has served as a volunteer consultant for the U.S. State Department and the United Nations. Her community service efforts have been recognized by the National Italian-American Political Action Committee, the Order of the Sons of Italy, Philadelphia, and the Boy Scouts of America, in addition to a number of other organizations.

The event will be held on the morning of January 31, 2010, at the New Haven Lawn Club at 193 Whitney Avenue in New Haven, CT.  For more information contact Jo-Ann Daddio-Larsen at (203) 645-6045 or by email at jadaddio@hotmail.com.  Reservations must be made by Tuesday, January 26.
