Singers perform at Avery Fisher Hall

Posted on May 05, 2010

Lauralton’s Advanced Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir performed at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on April 27. The students were honored to have been invited to sing, along with other outstanding high school choruses from Connecticut and New Jersey, at the request of Perform America organizers. According to music teacher Margy Sargent, “It was an incredible opportunity for our students to sing in a world renowned venue. It was very exciting for all of us.” The Lauralton vocalists sang the first three movements from the Requiem (Requiem Aeternam, Out of the Deep, and Pie Jesu) by John Rutter, Sing a Song of Sixpence by John Rutter, as well as The Lion Sleeps Tonight and the Theme from the Pink Panther. This is the second time in recent years that the Lauralton vocal students were invited to perform at Lincoln Center.

The Advanced Vocal Ensemble was also recently honored by an invitation from Representative T.R. Rowe of Trumbull’s District 123 to sing the National Anthem at an opening session of the House of Representatives in Hartford.

The highly acclaimed Lauralton vocalists will also be performing in Rome, Italy next year. The Advanced Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir were invited to sing at the New Year’s Day mass at the Vatican.

This week the singers, along with student instrumentalists, can be enjoyed closer to home in the Spring Concert at 7:30pm on May 6, at the Parson’s Complex in Milford. There is no admission charge and all are welcome.
