First Lieutenant Megan Dobbins, ’04 speaks to history studentsPosted on Oct 09, 2010
On October 8, history students spent time with Megan Dobbins,’04 learning about her recent experience in Afghanistan and the realities of that country and culture. First Lieutenant Megan Dobbins is a Military Intelligence Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, stationed out of Fort Bragg, NC. She has been serving in Afghanistan for a significant amount of time. Her unit is known for going Airborne, which means that she parachutes from planes, which Megan loves. Her job entails leading 25 military intelligence soldiers in directly supporting the infantry troops on the ground. While in Afghanistan Megan wrote in an email, “Nothing I had done in my life and no preparation, officer’s training, or just plain luck could make the job any easier. I truly work with some great soldiers and selfless Americans. I am truly enjoying this experience and am extremely proud to serve my country. It’s going to be a long, challenging, and life-changing year away from home, but knowing I have support from family and friends makes things a little easier.” A 2008 graduate of Siena College, Megan’s academic advisor in college wrote that “Megan is going to permanently change the Army. She is a force to be reckoned with.” Click here for the Milford Mirror article by Carole Walker on Megan Dobbin's visit to Lauralton. |
