Eighth graders have fun at LH Science Olympics

Posted on Oct 12, 2005

To promote science education for girls and provide eighth grade participants the opportunity to have fun while applying the basic themes of science in a practical, experimental context, the school’s Science Department hosted its second annual one-day Science Olympics for eighth graders on October 8.

In addition to participation in the science challenge activities, more than sixty eighth graders--triple last year’s number--were shown science demonstrations by Lauralton science students and teachers Theresa Napolitano and Susan Cavar. The first place team, “The Astronauts,” included team members Caitlin O’Neil, Anna Graham, Brittany Medinger and Katie Ippolits from Walsh Intermediate School in Branford and Tatiana Lyga from Harborside School in Milford.

Science Olympics for girls is held twice each year. Plans are now in place for the spring Science Olympics for seventh grade girls to be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006. Information about the spring event will be posted on the Lauralton Hall website in the spring.
