“A Century of Song” concert enjoyed by community

Posted on May 26, 2006

On May 15, Lauralton Hall hosted yet another celebration of her one hundredth anniversary with a spring concert, “A Century of Song.” The musical selections for this concert provided the community a look back at the world as it was during Lauralton’s first 100 years. Director of Music Margy Sargent selected songs from every decade to remind listeners of the major events of the 20th century and the influence of American music from the “birth of blues” to jazz to rock-and-roll.

As part of the festivities, alumna faculty member Mary Koehm, ’46, announced on behalf of the school community that in honor of the Sisters of Mercy who founded Lauralton Hall, the second building erected on the Lauralton campus would be named “Mercy Hall.” This building currently houses administrative offices, the Claven Auditorium and the Chapel, but once was home to Sisters and to students who boarded at the school. Lauralton Hall is exceedingly grateful to the Sisters of Mercy for their support over the past century and recognizes through the naming of Mercy Hall the legacy that the Sisters created for past generations of Lauralton ladies and for many more to come.
