Student Council sponsors Spirit WeekPosted on Oct 04, 2006
During the week of September 25, the hallways of Lauralton abounded with spirit when Student Council sponsored a week of exciting theme days. After celebrating a wonderful Mercy Day on Monday, September 25, students enjoyed TA theme day on Tuesday. Students in each TA wore whatever the TA had agreed upon and TA themes varied from ballerinas and crayons to M&Ms and cowgirls. On Wednesday, twin day, the Lauralton ladies had faculty and staff doing double takes all day long. At the Pep Rally on Thursday, all of the students--freshmen to seniors--showed amazing spirit. At the end of the school day the students entered the gym wearing their class colors to show class unity. Freshmen wore purple; sophomores, orange; juniors, fuchsia; and seniors dressed as The 101 Dalmatians, celebrating their class as the 101st class to graduate from Lauralton. The young ladies supported each other not only within their classes, but in the other classes as well. Spirit Week was in full bloom as each class decorated a designated section of the gymnasium bleachers with balloons, flyers, posters, banners and streamers in their class colors. Student Council officers opened the Pep Rally and a performance by our outstanding cheerleading squad followed. Each class, starting with the class of 2010, then presented a class cheer in which all class members participated. The four classes competed for most imaginative and well-put together cheer. The seniors were acknowledged as the winning class by a panel of three teachers selected by the members of Student Council, and the juniors won second place.
On the last day of Spirit Week the girls dressed in attire representing four decades…from the fifties to the eighties. Freshmen were seen throughout campus with their high ponytails with ribbons and poodle skirts reflecting the fifties look, while the sophomores were in bohemian shirts and skirts representing the sixties. Juniors were right out of the seventies in their bell bottom pants and tie-dye shirts and the seniors reminded us all of the eighties with their blue eye shadow, ripped sweatshirts, leggings, high heels, spandex and those great side ponytails.
Penny Wars, a competition among the four classes, also took place during Spirit Week. Proceeds from the Penny Wars will be contributed to a charity to be voted upon by Student Council members. |
