Senior citizens celebrate at Lauralton

The Lauralton Hall Key Club sponsored a Valentine Dance for the senior citizen community on February 9 in the Claven Auditorium. A jovial crowd of well over fifty senior citizens from surrounding towns, as well as several grandparents of Lauralton students and alumnae, joined Key Club members in a terrific afternoon of dance and fun. Well known dance instructor Tom Mohyde of Stratford led the group in line dancing and offered free lessons to the novice dancers. Students served refreshments to the guests and also gave tours of Lauralton’s Victorian Gothic Mansion, built in 1864 by the Honorable Charles Hobby Pond.

Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. As part of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Key Club exists on more than 5,000 high school campuses, primarily in the United States and Canada. The Lauralton Hall Key Club is sponsored by Lauralton parent Stephen Hill of the Norwalk Kiwanis Club. The Valentine Dance was one of several community service projects that Key Club members organize throughout the year.
