Trustees to present prestigious Claven AwardsPosted on Apr 08, 2007
Three notable women will receive Lauralton Hall’s highest honor--the Claven Award--at the school’s 26th annual Claven Awards Ceremony and Dinner on Saturday, April 28. Named after Lauralton Hall foundress Mother Mary Augustine Claven, the Claven Award is given by the school Board of Trustees. It recognizes women for their pursuit of excellence, personal and professional achievements, and service to others. The 2007 honorees are: Julia M. McNamara, Ph.D., president of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, for her creative institutional leadership; role as a community leader and advocate of lifelong learning; and commitment to making both Greater New Haven, and the state itself, stronger, more successful and more resilient communities. Lauralton alumna Sherrill S. Cooke of Milford, a member of the Class of 1985, for her professional achievements in the marketing and communications field; and for her vision, dedication and commitment to helping others as founder of The Bob Cooke Skin Cancer Foundation. Initially started as a tribute to her father, the skin cancer fund- and awareness-raising organization has now gone national--affecting and educating people throughout the country. Lauralton alumna Sister Marilyn M. Canning, RSM, MA, of West Hartford, a member of the Class of 1953, for more than 50 years of pioneering work on behalf of Connecticut youth; for the care, concern and courage that led her to opening a mission in Haiti; and for her compassion in reaching out to immigrant communities within Connecticut. The awards dinner and ceremony will start at 6 p.m. at Lauralton. Those interested in attending can contact Lauralton’s Alumnae Relations office at (203) 877-2786, ext. 114, or access the invitation/reservation form to the right. Tickets begin at $100 each, which includes cocktail hour, open bar, dinner, live music by the Heartbeat dance band, and the awards ceremony. There will also be a live auction, with black tie optional. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Lauralton improvement and educational programs.
