Spring concert offers preview to national event

Posted on Apr 09, 2007

The annual Spring Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Parsons Complex auditorium, 70 West River St., Milford. Included will be a performance by the Advanced Vocal Ensemble, which later that month will travel to Jamestown, Va., to represent Connecticut as part of America’s 400th Anniversary celebration.

The concert is free and open to the public. All are invited to attend.

Under the direction of Music Director Margy Sargent, Lauralton students will sing several of the patriotic songs planned for their May 11-13 visit to Virginia, where they’ll be part of a 1,607-member chorus made up of high school students from each of the 50 states. Queen Elizabeth and President Bush are among those expected to attend the performance.

Lauralton was the only Connecticut high school chosen to perform at this historic event, which will honor the 1607 founding of Jamestown, Va.--the first permanent English settlement in what would become the United States.

The Connecticut General Assembly recognized this prestigious honor on March 28 when members of the Lauralton chorus sang the National Anthem to open the General Assembly in Hartford and received a citation.
