Freshmen attend Jostens Leadership WorkshopPosted on May 02, 2007
On May 1, six Lauralton freshmen, along with Health & P.E. Department Chair Peggy McGowan, attended Jostens Freshman Leadership Workshop at Newington, CT High School. Focusing on high school freshmen to help them develop the personal character and interpersonal skills needed to make a difference in their school environment, the workshop, designed to challenge and motivate potential leaders, included about 150 high school freshmen from around Connecticut. Presenter Ed Gerety, an experienced keynote speaker and leadership trainer at national youth leadership conferences, colleges and universities and schools across the country, is recognized for his unique ability to connect with audiences about real issues. Through his personal experiences, humor and insights he teaches the principles and skills essential to the development of leaders. His powerful program left a lasting impact on the participants. Lauralton was represented by freshmen Alicia Cole, Rebecca Rego, Grace Reville, Amanda Rodrigues, Erika Sekerak and Jennie Serra. Each participant received a complimentary book/poster autographed by author Ed Gerety. When asked to comment on the workshop, Amanda Rodrigues said, “I learned a lot about how to be a leader. One thing I will bring back to Lauralton is ‘Never settle for GOOD work—only GREAT work!’ I am honored to have been able to attend such a wonderful learning experience.” Rebecca Rego commented, “I plan to go back to school and become ‘a ripple’ to help bring a positive attitude to all in order to make the next few years at Lauralton a success for members of the Class of 2010!” |
