Irish Night returns to sell-out crowd at Lauralton

More than 400 people helped celebrate Irish Night at Lauralton Hall on February 28. The sounds of thundering bagpipes and drums filled the gym as the Fairfield Gaelic Pipe Band marched in to signify the start of this spectacular event. Guests rose to their feet to applaud the award-winning band, the beginning of an evening filled with many ovations. Drawing from the diverse New York Metro music scene, the Highland Rovers Band thrilled the crowd with traditional Irish favorites as well as the contemporary sound for which they have become known. The record crowd of parents, alum parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and friends was wowed by the John O’Keefe Champion Irish Step Dancers as they performed, in full costume, their traditional reels and jigs. The dancers completed their set with an a capella hard shoe jig that had the crowd tapping along! Toward the end of the evening, the Fairfield Gaelic Pipe Band returned for another set beginning with an incredible drum solo followed by the entire pipe band joining in for the encore. Guests danced well into the wee hours and were very excited about the return of Irish Night.

The cabaret style evening brought out the best in gourmet fare as guests shared trays of hors d’oeuvres and appetizers. The Alumnae Executive Board hosted the event and donated wonderful raffle prizes as well as an array of delicious desserts.

Proceeds from this memorable evening benefit scholarship at Lauralton Hall. Thanks to all who helped to make Irish Night an incredible success. Save the date - February 27, 2010 - for next year’s not-to-be-missed event!
