World language honor societies induct new membersPosted on Apr 03, 2009
On March 19, 34 world language students were inducted into the French, Latin and Spanish honor societies. Seniors Molly Yardley, Elizabeth Lynch and Maureen Cashman eloquently led the ceremonies for their respective languages. Molly Yardley holds dual membership in both the Latin and French Honor Societies and Elizabeth Lynch is a member of both the French and Spanish Honor Societies. Julie Kinsella, ’98, Lauralton’s External Relations Coordinator, spoke passionately about her French studies while at Lauralton and during her undergraduate and graduate years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and Music and a Masters degree in French. Ms. Kinsella, who studied abroad at Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne, encouraged honor society members to take advantage of such programs in college. Following the induction ceremony, the new members and their families were honored at the annual International Dinner. The festivities began with entertainment provided by La Bomba Puertorriqueña al estilo de Carlos Cruz. The Puerto Rican bomba ensemble consisted of six young girls who danced in their white flowing dresses to rhythm of a drum, played by Carlos Cruz. Kelly Cruz, ’10, daughter of Carlos Cruz, led the dance group. Kelly’s rhythmic dance moves and the lively beat of the music were so contagious that several honor society members joined in the dancing. Administrators, faculty, new and previous inductees, language club members, parents, and performers sampled French, Italian, and Latino cuisine. The animated and enriching atmosphere was enjoyed by all who attended. |
