Forty-seven students from throughout the region were inducted into the Lauralton Hall chapter of the National Honor Society at a Nov. 7 ceremony. To be considered for this honor, students must have an overall grade point average of 90 or above and be deemed by Lauralton faculty to be role models in the areas of service, leadership and personal moral character. "The inductees are a special group," said English teacher and group co-moderator Pam Boynton. “They are the best of the best--students who will most likely go on to attend Ivy League, or other selective colleges and universities. So many Lauralton Hall students achieve such great accomplishments.” New Lauralton National Honor Society members include: "We are so very proud of all that these young women have accomplished," added math instructor and co-moderator Christine Cook. "It will be our pleasure to watch as they grow and shape their world." Senior officers who served as honor guard for the evening were: As part of the ceremony, the Lauralton Hall Chamber Ensemble performed orchestrations of Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and Pachelbel's Canon in D. Musicians included NHS inductee Heather Hawkes of Trumbull on violin with seniors Abigail Stein of Fairfield on viola, Anya Gilles of Norwalk on violin, and Christina Crossin of Milford on cello. Among other activities, Lauralton Hall National Honor Society members serve as peer tutors and conduct service projects that have included a "Homework Helpers" tutoring program for elementary parochial school students; book drives to help fill the shelves of elementary school libraries; and raising funds for Hurricane Katrina victims, Invisible Children and the Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Foundation. Eighty-nine students belong to the group. |
