New tradition greets Class of 2013

On September 3, as part of freshman orientation activities, members of the Class of 2013, faculty and administrators gathered to take part in the school's first-ever matriculation ceremony. Designed to formally present members of the Class of 2013 and to welcome these new first-year students to the school, the ceremony also celebrated the new academic year.

Summer Academy - students lend helping hands

Lauralton rising sophomores unselfishly spent two weeks of their summer vacation as volunteers choosing to help other children improve their skills. Nine students from the Class of 2012 were chosen to assist 6th, 7th and 8th graders from St. Martin de Porres Academy who were attending Lauralton’s Summer Academy program. This program is open to invited middle school girls attending St. Martin de Porres Academy. Each participant receives a full scholarship to the program which strives to encourage, challenge, support and broaden the experiences of the girls while reinforcing their academic skills in an effort to help prepare them for success in the next school year. The volunteers excitedly tutored and mentored the middle school girls everyday as the girls in the program followed a daily schedule of classes in Spanish, math, language arts and physical education. Lauralton students who were so generous in sharing of themselves and of their summer vacation made the following statements regarding their rewarding experience:

Students Taking Charge

Sarah Macone, '10 of Milford organized a group of students to create the Students Taking Charge video on behalf of Lauralton’s new Smackdown-Turnaround Program started "for students/by students" in May. Since Sarah has lost almost 90 pounds and is living a much healthier lifestyle, she wanted to bring women’s issues, nutrition and fitness to her fellow students by starting this new program.

Radio shows to air segment on LH barn

President Antoinette Iadarola; Interim Director of Development Sr. Pat Rooney RSM, ’54; External Relations Coordinator Julie Kinsella,’88; and Director of Historic Barns of Connecticut Todd Levine can all be heard on radio stations STAR 99.9 and WPLR 99.1 discussing the historic Lauralton Hall barn as well as the restoration of Connecticut barns in general. Lauralton Hall was recently awarded a $5,000 grant to assist in the stabilization of this very unique structure. 

New president - next chapter

The Board of Trustees announces its selection of Dr. Antoinette Iadarola to serve as president of the academy, effective July 1, 2009.  Dr. Iadarola succeeds President Barbara Griffin who retired at the end of June after serving six successful years as Lauralton Hall’s president.

LH to preserve a piece of Connecticut history

Built in 1864 and set on 23 acres, Lauralton Hall and its accompanying barn are architectural gems with a very interesting history. The original owner of the property was Charles Hobby Pond, the 36th Governor of Connecticut. Before his elections in 1850 and 1852 as Lieutenant Governor, Pond was an attorney and seafarer. In fact, the original name of the home was “Island View,” named for its view of Charles Island. Pond became governor in 1853 when the sitting governor resigned to accept an international appointment.

103rd commencement celebrates the Class of 2009

The 120 members of the Class of 2009 graduated at 10 a.m. on May 31, led by valedictorian Mary Katherine LoPiccolo and salutatorian Heather Hawkes. With the graduates dressed in white caps and gowns, the ceremony took place in the Lauralton Hall gymnasium.

World languages students excel in national exams

Ten Lauralton Hall Latin students achieved excellence on the competitive National Latin Exam. Students from throughout the United States, Canada and a number of other countries competed for top scores on the annual exam, which was sponsored by the American Classical League. 

Easton dad wins $100,000 tuition raffle

Easton resident Thomas McCauley is still in shock after winning the $100,000 tuition raffle drawing on the evening of May 14, but says that when he looks at the big check in his house, he knows it’s real.

Lauralton Hall introduces Summer Workshops for Middle School Girls

Lauralton Hall is excited to present Workshops for Middle School Girls. Open to girls entering grades 6, 7 and 8, these weeklong enrichment workshops offer participants an opportunity to increase self-esteem, experience community and engage in diverse activities on the beautiful campus at Lauralton Hall. Two one-week workshops are offered July 6 - July 10 and July 13 - 17. Individual workshops or full day (8:15a.m. to 3:15p.m.) options are available.
