LH “Cool School” to air live on Feb. 12

Lauralton Hall has been chosen as a “Cool School” by WFSB Channel 3 Eyewitness News Anchor Mike Hydeck.

On Friday morning, February 12, from 5:00am to 7:00am, the Eyewitness Morning News will be broadcast live from the Lauralton Hall gymnasium.  

"Annie" to be presented October 22-24

Lauralton Hall is pleased to present a student fall musical production of “Annie” on Friday, October 22, at 7:30pm; Saturday, October 23, at 7:00pm; and Sunday, October 24, at 2:30pm. All performances will take place in the Parsons Complex Auditorium, 70 West River St., Milford.

Monica Laskos named DAR Good Citizen

Monica Laskos, ’10 has been named the Lauralton Hall recipient of the DAR Good Citizen award program. Sponsored by the Freelove Baldwin Stow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the DAR Good Citizen scholarship contest recognizes an outstanding young person in the senior class. Students selected as Good Citizen, one from each of the four Milford high schools, will be awarded a certificate and a prize of $100 on March 11, 2010, at 7pm at the F.B.S. chapter house located at 55 Prospect Street, Milford. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must display these qualities to an outstanding degree: dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality; service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).   

Students help those in need locally and beyond

The Fine Art and Photography Club conducted a fundraiser during lunch on January 12. Club members have been using their talents to create beautiful and decorative bracelets from yarn, cord, hemp and beads. The finished pieces were sold to other students in order to raise money for the Beth El Center in Milford. The girls feel that supporting the homeless is a very important cause, especially during this cold winter season. Under the direction of art teachers Judith Doherty and Elizabeth Musante, the Fine Art and Photography Club has donated to organizations in the past, including the Milford Senior Center. "Helping others and offering support out in the community is part of what we teach our girls here at Lauralton,” said Mrs. Doherty.

Alums gather in Florida

More than 20 Lauralton alumnae met on January 7 in the beautiful Florida home of Marilyn Eckholm Tiberio, '56 to greet the school's new president, Antoinette Iadarola, Ph.D. Alums from the Naples and Bonita Springs areas gathered to discuss the Academy's future plans and learn about recent events.

Dr. Iadarola to be honored on January 31

The National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW), Connecticut Region will hold its first annual Epiphany Celebration at the New Haven Lawn Club on January 31. In following with the Epiphany tradition of celebrating the three wise men, NOIAW’s Connecticut Region will honor “Three Wise Women” who have made outstanding achievements in their fields and positive contributions to their communities, and who are also strong role models to the next generation of Italian American women. Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro will present the awards to this year’s honorees: Lynn R. Fusco, President, Fusco Corporation; Antoinette Iadarola, Ph.D., President, Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall; and Mary E. Tinetti, M.D., Director, Yale Program on Aging, Yale School of Medicine.  

LH launches ice hockey team

Lauralton Hall is pleased to announce the formation of the school’s first-ever Crusaders Ice Hockey Team. The maiden team includes 23 team members coached by Richard Marshall and Michelle Marella. Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport serves as home ice for the team. Lauralton Hall Athletic Director Nicolle Camara says the girls “are having a great time.” 
  

Principal's Leadership Award winner announced

Lauralton Hall is pleased to announce this year’s winner of the school’s Principal’s Leadership Award. Erika Sekerak, ’10 will now compete in the national Principal’s Leadership Award scholarship program.

"Christmas in the Mansion" organizers thank 20th anniversary participants

We warmly thank the amazing Lauralton community of young women and their families, alumnae and staff for once again coming together in a tremendous effort to present “Christmas in the Mansion” 2009. For the 20th annual event donations for the raffle and gift boutique poured in; volunteer decorators worked endlessly to prepare the buildings and grounds with this year’s “Harps of Gold” theme; students, parents, staff and alumnae baked delicacies for the Bake Shoppe; and volunteers beautifully decorated trees for the Trees of Christmas raffle.

SADD members launch Sticker Shock project

On December 17, members of the Lauralton Hall SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group will partner with MADD in their second Sticker Shock Campaign. Results fromÊa recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicated that underage drinking in our community is all too common. During this holiday season, SADD members will be taking actions to reduce underage drinking and to prevent any potential tragedies from happening in our town. This project aims to reach those individuals over age 21 that legally purchase alcohol and provide it to a minor. The campaign consists of stickers being adhered to multi-packs of alcoholic beverages in participating liquor stores.
