Students raise $3,000+ for breast cancer awareness
Lauralton Hall students participated in three separate October events to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a donation of more than $3,000 dollars!

First-year students “Catch the Spirit”
To go on retreat is to move away from the ordinary events of every day. Members of the Class of 2013 did just that on October 21. It was a day of firsts for Lauralton Hall students. First-year students experienced their first Lauralton Hall retreat which was led by their peers, juniors and seniors representing Campus Ministry and Peer Mentors. This was the first time a retreat was led by students, rather than an outside retreat team.
Tradition continues...juniors receive class rings
In a ceremony conducted by the class officers, class rings were blessed by Sister Dorothy Synkewecz and presented to the juniors by President Antoinette Iadarola. A special touch, and another Lauralton tradition, was the presentation of class rings by alumnae mothers to their daughters: Eydie Walker Moyer, ’83 to Myla and Carol Lyddy O'Connell, ’76 to Katie-John.
SADD members "Walk Like MADD"
The Lauralton Hall chapter of SADD took first place as top academic team in Branford’s Walk Like MADD event on October 17. Walk Like MADD is a 5K non-competitive family walk that raises funds to support MADD’s “Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving,” as well as MADD’s work to support victims and their families and prevent underage drinking. SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) supports and partners with the MADD organization throughout the year by providing activities and awareness in support of the mission to eliminate underage drinking.
Kudos to Open House participants
Thank you to our students, faculty and parent volunteers…and especially to the visitors to our campus who helped make Open House 2009 successful. We were thrilled to host so many prospective students and their families on October 4.
Science students survey Mondo Pond
Advanced Placement Environmental Science teacher April Kelley and History Department Chair Marilyn Cummings accompanied 29 AP Environmental Science students on October 9, to Mondo Pond in Milford for an Environmental Assay Survey. The students spent more than three hours surveying the environmental conditions of the pond and its surrounding habitat. After a guided nature walk around the pond led by Mrs. Kelley, the students settled into their assigned roles in the Environmental Assay Survey. Some aspects studied were dissolved oxygen levels, fecal bacterial counts, water quality (pH, nitrate & phosphate levels), soil quality (texture, pH, nitrate & phosphate levels) and species diversity.
Lauralton observes annual Mercy Day celebration
Mercy Day is an observance that Lauralton Hall shares with all other Mercy institutions and ministries throughout the world. Celebrating this special day in a time-honored tradition, the Lauralton community attended mass and gathered for lunch on the campus grounds.

Lauralton Hall is excited and proud to present the The Pirates of Penzance in Parsons Complex Auditorium, 70 West River St., Milford:
Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 25, at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at Lauralton Hall on school days or at Parsons Auditorium just prior to the performances. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Cash and checks are accepted.
Students succeed at Science Olympics
Forty teams of middle school girls from schools throughout Connecticut spent Saturday, September 26, competing in a variety of science challenges. They built a tower that would support weight, launched a homemade rocket and calculated the age of a “fossil.” Wind Over Wings, a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education center, brought four of their feathered friends including a great horned owl for a presentation on birds.
