Lauralton to present "The Sound of Music"

Daily rehearsal is underway for Lauralton Hall's upcoming performances of Roger’s & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, starring Lauralton students and others from throughout the region.

Shows will be in the Parsons Complex Auditorium, 70 West River St., Milford, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 24; at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25; and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26. Tickets can be purchased at the school now or at the door. The ticket price is $15 for adults; $10 for students and seniors. Cash and checks are accepted. 

Athletes and parents attend sports performance lecture

On September 10, the school hosted a free lecture on “Sports Performance:  How do you accelerate your teenage athlete’s ability to compete?” Students and parents of student-athletes gathered to learn about the vital role of sports nutrition and optimal body system function for peak performance in the world of high school athletics from guest speaker, Dr. Jason Jenkins, D.C., C.S.C.S. 

13 days at GYL Conference

Caroline Holguin, ’10 participated in the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) this summer. This is a unique leadership development program for high-achieving students organized by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council that brings together outstanding young people from around the world to construct critical leadership skills in a global context. Over the thirteen days at GYLC, Caroline explored Central and Eastern Europe (Vienna, Budapest, & Prague), uncovering the challenges of global leadership, engaging in fast-paced experiential simulations and honing her leadership skills. Highlights from Caroline’s experience include:
* a focus on the global community and the rise of the European Union, as related to Caroline by members of the Austrian Parliament.
* guided explorations of Europe’s most beautiful and historic city centers, with an emphasis on past leaders and their continuing influence on contemporary Europe.
* a series of simulations examining international trade, peace and security, culminating in the “Global Summit” activity, in which Caroline represented a country’s national interests on the global stage.

Parents welcomed

The first day of school was off to a good start as parents and staff enjoyed conversation and coffee at the Welcome Coffee Reception held for parents in the Claven Auditorium on September 2. Parents of both new and returning students spent a few minutes getting to know each other and learning about parent involvement opportunities at Lauralton Hall.

New beginning for Summer Academy

Begun in 2003, Summer Academy at Lauralton Hall offers a program of academic instruction in the basic subject areas of math, reading and English, as well as instruction in physical education and art to middle school girls.

LH students SWIM for Jack McCarthy and Otto Wong

Six Lauralton Hall students participated on August 2 in Swim Across the Sound. The Swim is conducted annually in an effort to raise funds for the fight against cancer.

$100,000 Tuition Raffle winner announced

As far as Fairfield mother Cynthia Elwood is concerned, winning Connecticut’s first-ever $100,000 tuition raffle is better than winning the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

Class of 2008 commencement

On a day as bright as the expectations that filled the gymnasium, the 105 members of the Class of 2008 graduated wearing traditional white caps and gown and holding yellow roses.

Gates, Lauralton lock up state title

STRATFORD - No, Lauralton Hall starter Bridget Gates didn't finish the Class M championship game perfect, not that it mattered much with the inspired defensive effort behind her. 

Students excel in national language exams

In their first year of competition, Lauralton Hall students performed exceptionally well on the Grand Concours National French Examination sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.
At the fourth-year French level, Elizabeth Lynch, ’09 placed 6th in CT and 8th in the country; Katherine Doyle, ’08 placed 7th in CT and 9th in the country; Laura Boynton, ’08 placed 8th in CT and 10th nationally.
At the second-year level, Lia Bonacci, ’10 placed 4th in CT and 5th nationally and Kathleen Steele, ’10 placed 9th in CT and 10th in the country.
At the first-year level, Lindsay Warren, ’11 placed 4th in CT and 5th in the country and Katherine Siroky, ’11 placed 9th in CT and 10th in the nation.
