On October 4, members of the Class of 2009 gathered with family members for the Junior Ring Ceremony, a very special Lauralton Hall tradition that marks the transition of students from underclassmen to upperclassmen. Ninety-eight juniors received their rings from President Barbara Griffin. The class rings were blessed by Sister Dorothy Synkewecz and the class officers conducted the ceremony. A special touch, and another Lauralton tradition, was the presentation of class rings by alumnae mothers to their daughters: Theresa Luchansky Hausmann,’71 to her daughter Victoria Hausmann, ’09; Mary Miro Klein, ’77 to her daughter Kaitlyn Klein, ’09; and Judy Dallachie Wheaton, ’74, mother of Molly Wheaton, ’09. The juniors and guests also witnessed the class ring presentation to Elizabeth O’Connell, ’09 by her grandmother, Catherine Robstock Greenwood, ’43. After receiving their rings the juniors eagerly began the traditional “ring turn” by relatives and friends for good luck. The annual celebration of Mercy Day took place on September 24 when Lauralton Hall joined with Mercy schools throughout the world to remember Catherine McAuley’s opening of the House at Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland. Activities included a mass celebrated by Father Robert Lord, followed by a picnic on the front lawn for students and faculty. Student Council Blood Drive a success Posted on Sep 26, 2007
More than 40 pints of blood were collected from student, staff and parent participants at a Bloodmobile organized and hosted September 25 by the Student Council. Event planners who also worked the blood drive registration table included Student Council officers and members. Lauralton parents gathered in the school's mansion on the evening of September 12, where they were welcomed by President Barbara Griffin and members of McAuley Guild, the mothers' club, at the annual Parent Welcome Reception. Many parents took advantage of this opportunity to connect with other Lauralton parents and volunteer for various working committees for Christmas in the Mansion and McAuley Guild events. On September 12, the Lauralton community celebrated Founder’s Day in remembrance of the opening of the school on September 12, 1905, by Mary Augustine Claven, RSM. Lauralton Hall freshmen began their high school experience on August 28 and 29 with two days of orientation activities. The first event, Project Adventure, included team building activities to introduce and help acclimate the incoming freshmen to each other and their student mentors. To promote science education for girls and to provide participants the opportunity to enjoy themselves while applying the basic themes of science in a practical, experimental context, the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall is again offering Science Olympics for Girls. Lauralton Hall is looking forward to welcoming our newest students, members of the Class of 2011, and has organized Project Adventure to be held on August 28, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to provide freshmen the opportunity to meet other freshmen in a fun, active environment. The Project Adventure program provides a wonderful way for the students to meet and get acquainted. They will find themselves cheering each other on with great enthusiasm, even though they may have just met! It will be a great opportunity for the freshmen to have fun and meet the classmates with whom they will spend the next four years. The success of the program is evidenced by the incredible cohesiveness and spirit of the Class of 2010 who participated in Project Adventure last year. Orientation for freshmen will take place the following day, August 29, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The first day of classes for all students is Tuesday, September 4.
