Mercy Day dedications at Lauralton

MILFORD - Culminating the yearlong celebration of its 100th anniversary, students, faculty and alumni of Lauralton Hall on Monday dedicated the school's administration building as Mercy Hall, in honor of the religious order that established the school.

MILFORD - Linda Lyon taught theology at Lauralton Hall for 25 years, but until Monday when she returned by special invitation, never once gushed at the sight of the front door panels of the school’s mansion building.

Freshmen enjoy orientation activities

Lauralton Hall freshmen began their high school experience on August 29 and 30 with two days of orientation activities. The first event, Project Adventure, included team building activities to introduce and help acclimate the incoming freshman to each other and the school campus. The second day combined an academic orientation with additional team building exercises.

CIAC to provide athletic schedules

The Athletic Department is now using CIAC (rather than HighSchoolSports.net) for scheduling. All Lauralton athletics schedules can now be viewed at the CIAC site which also provides the ability to register for e-mail notification of schedule changes and to download CIAC schedules into Outlook calendars or other PDA programs.

Lauralton Hall welcomes the Class of 2010

Lauralton Hall welcomes the Class of 2010…114 freshmen who come to us from 21 towns and 46 schools: 70 students from 23 Catholic schools; 41 students from 21 public schools; and three students from two other private schools.

Class of 2006 year-end activities culminate with graduation

In keeping with tradition, senior year-end activities began with an Arbor Day Celebration when the graduating class planted a tree on the Lauralton Hall campus; the Class of 2006 contributed a Japanese maple. The Senior Retreat followed, taking place at Mercy Center in Madison.

Frances Warde Service Award established

As the Lauralton Hall Centennial year draws to a close, the school announced the establishment of the Frances Warde Service Award. Sister Frances Warde was one of the first seven Sisters of Mercy to set sail for North America to found the first Mercy convent in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sister Frances was also instrumental in the opening of the first Mercy convent in Hartford, Connecticut. Since she is so significant to the Connecticut Sisters of Mercy, Lauralton Hall has named this new service award in honor of Sister Frances Warde and has begun an annual tradition of presenting the award to students who give 100 hours of service to their community and school over the course of a school year. 

Year-end Liturgy celebrated on Ascension Thursday

Students, faculty, administrators and staff gathered as a faith community on Thursday, May 25, for a liturgy celebrating Jesus’ Ascension into heaven and to celebrate all that has been enjoyed this school year. Jesus is Lord of us all which means we are to put him first above all else, so it was a most appropriate way to end the fourth quarter of our school year and to pray for successful final exams. 

“A Century of Song” concert enjoyed by community

On May 15, Lauralton Hall hosted yet another celebration of her one hundredth anniversary with a spring concert, “A Century of Song.” The musical selections for this concert provided the community a look back at the world as it was during Lauralton’s first 100 years. Director of Music Margy Sargent selected songs from every decade to remind listeners of the major events of the 20th century and the influence of American music from the “birth of blues” to jazz to rock-and-roll. 

Centennial Gala - a smashing success!

The Lauralton Hall Centennial Gala…celebrating 100 years of all that is Lauralton…was held on April 29 in the school gymnasium. The evening was filled with excitement and camaraderie as more than 350 guests including parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and friends enjoyed a live and silent auction and danced the night away to live music in our completely transformed gym. Guests were amazed by the fantastic shooting star decorations, enjoyed great food and were thrilled with their copies of the newly published Centum: A Legacy of Lamplight, the 100 year history of Lauralton Hall written by alumna and faculty member Mary Koehm, ’46.

 

The Centennial Gala proved to be an incredible fundraiser and friend-raiser, thanks to all who participated.
